This safari package will take you to some of the most popular and unique parks in Kenya. The journey begins in Samburu, known for its rare species of wildlife. Then, head to Ol Pejeta Conservancy, which hosts the largest rhino population in East Africa and is home to the last two remaining northern white rhinos in the world. The conservancy also protects rescued chimpanzees, and we’ll have the opportunity to visit the Sweetwater Chimpanzee Sanctuary, which is the only one of its kind in Kenya.

Ol Pejeta Conservancy is a renowned wildlife conservancy located in Laikipia County, Kenya. Spanning 140 square miles (360 square kilometers), it is the largest black rhino sanctuary in East Africa and is famed for its efforts in wildlife conservation and community development. The Conservancy offers an exceptional safari experience, blending wildlife viewing with conservation education. Wildlife Ol Pejeta Conservancy is home to a remarkable diversity of wildlife, including the Big Five (lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, and rhino). The conservancy is particularly noted for its population of black and white rhinos, and it also houses the last two northern white rhinos in the world. Other notable species include Grevy’s zebras, Jackson’s hartebeests, and various bird species. The Sweetwaters Chimpanzee Sanctuary, the only one in Kenya, provides a safe haven for rescued chimpanzees. Scenery The conservancy features a diverse landscape ranging from acacia-dotted savannahs to dense thickets and lush riverine forests. The backdrop of Mount Kenya to the southeast adds a picturesque element to the scenery, providing excellent photographic opportunities. The Ewaso Nyiro River, which runs through the conservancy, attracts a variety of wildlife, especially during the dry season. Weather and Climate Ol Pejeta Conservancy enjoys a semi-arid climate with warm days and cool nights. The area experiences two rainy seasons: the long rains from March to May and the short rains from October to December. The dry season, from June to September and January to February, typically features clear skies and pleasant temperatures, making it ideal for wildlife viewing. Best Time to Visit The best time to visit Ol Pejeta Conservancy is during the dry seasons, from June to September and January to February. These months provide optimal conditions for game drives and other outdoor activities, as animals tend to gather around water sources, making them easier to spot. The cooler, drier weather is also more comfortable for visitors.

Nairobi to Samburu

Our driver guide from the company will pick you up from the airport or your city accommodation and take you on a scenic drive to Samburu National Reserve, which is located in the north. During the drive, you will pass through the fertile highlands of Kenya, famous for its vibrant agricultural economy of tea and coffee.

You'll stop at the equator line for a demonstration of the north and south, and to use the bathrooms before continuing on your journey to Samburu, where you'll arrive in time for lunch. In the afternoon, you'll go on your first game drive. This will be an opportunity to witness the amazing wildlife conservation haven, famous for an abundance of rare species of animals, such as the Gravy Zebras, Somali Ostrich, Reticulated Giraffes, Gerenuks, and the beautiful Oryx. You'll also learn about the cultural heritage of the Samburu people, who are known as the butterfly people. Finally, you'll retreat to the camp at sunset.

Depart for an early morning game drive, then return to the lodge for a leisurely breakfast. Afterward, pack up and drive south of Samburu to reach the Fairmont Safari Club in time for a late lunch. After finishing your meal, take some time to get familiar with the hotel, which boasts an Orphanage and a nice view of Mount Kenya.

In the late afternoon, take a walk to the nearby animal orphanage that cares for orphaned, injured, and distressed wildlife, giving them a second chance to release these animals back into the wild once they are back to full health. For a one-hour visit, and then return to the hotel for dinner and overnight stay.

After enjoying a leisurely breakfast, you will undertake a short drive to reach Ol Pejeta in good time to begin your game drive. The first part of the game drive will involve a visit to the chimpanzee sanctuary. Following this, you will explore the park, which is home to a large population of black and white rhinos, as well as giraffes, gazelles, elephants, lions, cheetahs, and numerous other animals.

Ol Pejeta is the largest black rhino sanctuary in East Africa and is home to two of the world's last remaining northern white rhinos. It is also the only location in Kenya where you can observe chimpanzees. The sanctuary was established to rehabilitate animals rescued from the black market. After leaving the park, you'll head to Nairobi with a lunch stopover at the renowned Trout Tree restaurant, arriving back in Nairobi late in the evening. You will then be dropped off at the airport or at your preferred location, marking the end of your safari.
